1.THE SOUND

We are justly famous for our rich and distinctive "European" sound. Key to the sound is the quality of the wood used in our soundboards . We use Bavarian spruce which comes from sustainable managed forests and is widely regarded as the best tone wood available. The stability of the crown (curvature) of the soundboard is also important - to maintain this we use individually shaped spruce ribs. Our skilled technicians carefully "tone" each of the premium felt hammer heads as part of the final preparation process.

2. THE TOUCH

Our touch is superbly responsive, being both smooth and even- the result of using our precision engineered Kemble action and its fine adjustment by our craftsmen. In addition, whereas some manufacturers compromise on their key material, our keys are made from spruce, a wood renowned for its stability in different climatic conditions.

3. THE DESIGN

Our own designers have been schooled in the long and rich tradition of British furniture design, and have created a rather special range of elegant designs. In addition, we have commissioned Conran and Partners, the premier British design firm to create exciting new styles for us.

4. THE FINISH

Our pianos are carefully finished in satin, lustre or high gloss polyester. We are also famous for the quality of our hand selected wood veneers. The beauty of our cabinets speaks for itself.

5. THE TUNING STABILITY

The use of substantial spruce grids in the 116cm, and bigger pianos, combined with our vacuum process cast iron frame and Delignit tuning plank ensures that our “back” comfortably supports over 20 tons of tension and provides excellent tuning stability. Our smaller 110cm models also have a reputation for excellent stability.

6. THE PEOPLE

Over 70% of our staff have been with us for over 15 years giving us a wealth of expertise and experience in piano making which is passed on from one generation to the next.

7. THE MATERIALS

Quality materials are vital for a quality product - we source ours world-wide to obtain the best. For example from Germany we buy "Roslau" steel music strings, "Delignit" beech 15 ply tuning planks, and BASF polyester.
